In 2014, Play Based Projects began as a small dream under the name Paradise Babies . In our early days, we were a daycare with a simple but powerful mission: to provide a loving space where children could be cared for while their parents were at work. What we didn't imagine back then was that this daycare would transform into a much larger educational project.
From Daycare to Educational Center with Reggio Emilia Philosophy
As we welcomed more children, we realized that our mission wasn't just about providing care. We wanted to provide them with a quality education based on respect, exploration, and play as the main drivers of learning.
In 2016, we took a crucial step by building our first facility, designed with the initial ideas of what we wanted to offer. Three years later, in 2019, we officially became an Early Learning Center and celebrated a special milestone: graduating our first class of kindergarten students.
This growth led us to reflect on our identity and long-term vision. In 2022, we adopted the name Play Based Projects, a change that better reflects our educational philosophy and desire to expand learning beyond early childhood.
A Play- and Creativity-Centered Approach
At Play Based Projects, we believe that learning occurs most deeply when children feel connected to what they are exploring. For us, education is not a standardized process, but rather a journey of genuine curiosity that is cultivated and guided over time.
Our logo, inspired by a drawing by one of our own students, embodies this vision. The spiral of the snail symbolizes growth, transformation, connection with nature, and the evolution of learning. Every stroke, every color, and every shape reflects a child's perspective, a fundamental element in developing an authentic and meaningful curriculum.
Expansion to Primary Education
The journey doesn't stop there. In 2020, we decided to take a giant leap forward by expanding into primary education. We currently offer grades 1, 2, and 3, and we continue to grow each year. The construction of a multi-grade classroom has allowed us to offer adequate spaces for this new stage, while maintaining our core foundation of play and experiential learning. We are also laying the groundwork for the next steps to continue expanding our infrastructure.
Our training in Reggio Emilia pedagogy has driven us to seek out opportunities for learning and international collaboration. We have visited Reggio Emilia twice and participated in numerous training sessions organized by RedSOLARE Latinoamerica, Diip Spain, and other institutions. For the past five years, we have had the pleasure of working with Laura Fantini, a Reggio Emilia atelierista and the first atelierista in Honduras, who has been instrumental in the evolution of our approach.
Most recently, our director, Jeniffer Lopez, participated in a training program with RedSOLARE in December 2024. Our founder, Vania Suazo, also visited Reggio Emilia as part of a in-depth study tour organized by RedSOLARE in April 2025, reaffirming our commitment to continue promoting this educational model in Honduras. As we move forward, we are excited to share relevant news about the Reggio Emilia network in Honduras very soon.
Thank you for being part of our history.
This 10-year journey would not have been possible without the constant support of our families, our educators, and everyone who has believed in this project. Every child who has passed through our classrooms, every discovery, and every small achievement has motivated us to keep going.
The road has not been easy. We have faced challenges that tested our resilience and determination. From the uncertainty of building our own facilities to continually adapting to the changes and demands of education in difficult times, each obstacle has taught us valuable lessons. We view these challenges not as barriers, but as pauses that invite us to rethink and find new solutions.
Every challenge strengthens us and reminds us that education is an ongoing commitment, a constant evolution in which there is always something new to learn and improve.
Today, we look to the future with enthusiasm, confident that we are building a space where education is lived with passion, where children are listened to and valued, and where learning becomes a limitless adventure.
